A
musical wonder who's lack of vision is as well know
as his music. At age 5, Ray developed glaucoma and
within 2 years, was permanently blind. His rise in
music crossed country, R&B, Soul and gospel. Ray
was married twice, first to Eileen Williams for 1
year in 1951 and then to Della Beatice Hoard for 22
years from 1955 - 1977. His trademark was always his
dark sunglasses, big smile, and swaying motion while
performing.
He
is often credited with the most recognizable rendition
of "America the Beautiful".
